Author Submissions
Submission is via Email and the preferred manuscript format is PDF. If PDF conversion is unavailable to the author we accept original manuscripts in the format of RTF Microsoft Word document file or an OpenOffice file. Please submit, with the manuscript, the names and addresses of three potential referees. If electronic submission is not possible typewritten manuscripts should be sent to the editorial address and marked for the attention of the editor.
Submission of an article implies that the manuscript content has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of an academic thesis or a published lecture) nor is under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submission also implies the publication is approved by all authors and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the copyright holder
TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS
Original Research Articles (Regular Articles) should report the results of original research. The material should not have been previously published elsewhere, except in a preliminary form.
Review Articles will deal with tightly defined topics, which are highly novel, and of particular interest to the readership of the journal. Suggested length of the text is approximately 6000 words. Larger reviews are accepted, but manuscripts generally should not exceed 30 manuscript pages. Exceptions are possible, particularly in the case of reviews and taxonomic monographs, but these should be negotiated in advance with the editor by submitting an expression of interest including a synposis and review plan.
Short Communications of approximately 3000 words are also accepted. These papers should contain no more than two figures, two tables, and thirty references. A short abstract of fewer than 100 words is acceptable.
Rapid Communications should be prepared as for short communications. In addition articles must be distinctive, timely, and describe innovative or pioneering research, or present unique and new concepts in the subject matter area. This communication will be enhanced by rapid online publication in that the article requires a high profile and is information required by the readership. All rapid communications will be pre-reviewed by at least 3 experts in the subject matter area if possible. Editorial charges apply to this form of contribution. Charges are currently set at an administration fee of £70 plus an additional £45 per page.
Letters to the Editor and Book Reviews should consist of about 1000 words and contain no tables, no figures, and no new data. Manuscripts should be prepared based upon the style rules below. Deviation from these guidelines can cause publication delays.
ACCEPTANCE
Manuscripts are usually reviewed within 4-8 weeks. Authors will be asked to sign a ‘Journal Publishing Agreement’ when the article has been accepted for publication. More details about the agreement and copyright matters can be found here.
An e-mail will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a link to the online version of the Journal Publishing Agreement form. Permission of the Publisher is required for distribution and for all forms of resale for all other derivative works, including compilations and translations.
If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included in the article, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit all sources within the article. Brazen Head Publishing has permission request forms which can be used by authors for such purposes.
Upon acceptance any changes based upon reviewer’s comments should be made and the modified manuscript returned in either an RTF Microsoft Word document file or an OpenOffice file to the editor. All figures should be sent separately as TIFF formatted files based upon the guidelines outlined here.
As an author you, or your employer or institution, retain certain legal rights. Details of these rights can be found here.
